Nicholas Zebrun - Synopsis
Nicholas Zebrun is an independent film
director, writer and producer from Fort Worth, Texas. He is
a frequent collaborator with David Sowden, acting as
producer for a number of his films. He works with Esoteric
Productions, Inc., a motion picture production company that
focuses on exploring and experimenting with different
venues and outlets for filmmaking and distribution.
His short film, Midnight Ransom,
earned “Best of the Rest” honors in film buff Gary Cogill’s
3-Minute Movie Contest.
Nicholas Zebrun is known for using long,
complex takes to emphasize reality and drama within a
scene. He encourages a great deal of improvisation amongst
his actors, believing that the script is only a blueprint
for the final product. He is also known for using unique
camera movements, often keeping performers off screen until
critical lines of dialogue are delivered. Often serving as
his own editor, he frequently alternates between lengthy
takes and short, quickly edited scenes to create a unique
rhythm, often employing jump cuts and other visual
diversions akin to the style of the French New Wave.
